Best plays for Finals Day

Flemington plays host to Finals Day this Saturday, an annual tradition that attracts some high quality racing.

The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and with fine, but very cold weather predicted, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.

The rail is in the true position for the entire circuit and at this set-up, the track should play perfectly.

Flemington Race 1 #9 Stalking $12.00

I have to make a case for this Godolphin runner in the 2YO Final here, in what looks a very evenly matched race with some smart babies.

Stalking has only had the one run, which came at Wangaratta where she finished second over the 1170m as a double figure chance.

She was only fairly to begin and settled back in the field on a day where it was a big advantage to be up on-the-speed.

She straightened up in behind runners and really hit the line hard in the late stages when clear, flashing through to grab second.

The filly ran the fourth fastest last 200m split of the entire day, putting in an eye catching debut effort that was backed up by the clock as well.

Second-up here, shw gets some notable changes in her favour:

  • she stretches out to 1200m;
  • gets a better draw in barrier two;
  • the winkers go on; and
  • Damien Oliver hops aboard.

She also drops 2kg and rates highly enough compared to these other runners.

I have her priced at $6, so am happy to bet into the double figures currently on offer.

Flemington Race 6 Tip #2 Dice Roll $2.15

This very talented gelding has been a star since coming to Australia and although he is short here, I can't see how they can beat him.

Three runs this campaign have all been wins, and very good wins at that.

He knocked off proven black type winner Rubisaki here over 1420m last start, grinding away through the line and doing it easily in the end.

He ran the fastest last 200m split of the entire day in that clash, proving that he's ready for this step to the mile.

His win ratings are very good and from barrier 6 here, look for him to lob right up on-speed outside Odeon.

The rest of this field would need to produce some season or even career peak ratings in order to beat him. However with everything falling into place for Dice Roll, I'm not sure how that is possible.

Looks the bet of the day, happy enough to play at the short odds.
