02/10/21 Randwick Tips & best bets for Saturday Racing

We return to NSW headquarters for Saturday's edition of free best bets, with a cracking 10 race card highlighted by three Group 1's, the Epsom Handicap, The Metropolitan and Flight Stakes.

The track is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit.

There has been scattered showers across Sydney on Wednesday, with more predicted towards the end of the week. This should ensure the track comes up in the Soft range come Saturday.

At this track set-up, punters can expect the best going to be down the middle of the track, with an advantage to those drawn middle to wide barrier.

Randwick Race 3 Tip #11 Sejardan $16.00

The time of year has finally come where we get to see future superstars strut their stuff on the big stage.

This year's edition of the Breeder's Plate is full of colts looking to get their first taste of success under race day conditions.

I'm siding with the beautifully bred Sejardan, out of Sire Sebring and Dam Miss Amajardan.

Miss Amajardan was a brilliant performer as a 2YO, winning both her starts including the Tattersalls Club Plate at this very track.

If Sejardan has inherited her natural talent, he'll be one to follow over the coming years.

In his only trial at the Kensington track, he was tardy away landing himself towards the rear of the field. He showed great temperament however, settling beautifully into his stride.

Once they got to the straight, Jason Collett brought him to the outside to allow him to let down powerfully over the final 600m.

Assessing his competitors in this clash, there appears to be genuine tempo in the race.

Collett will take the reigns again and if he can produce a similar ride to the trials, expect Sejardan to be flashing at them late down the outside.

His breeding out of Sebring will assist him in handling the anticipated wet conditions.

At the opening price of $16, he is definitely worth an each-way ticket.

Randwick Tip from Michael Gannon

 

Randwick Race 7 #8 Von Trapp $18.00

This filly by Frankel closed off impressively last start and will relish the step up to the mile in this year's Flight Stakes.

Over the 1400m in the Tea Rose Stakes, she raced in restricted room until the 100m mark but still managed to easily record the fastest last 600m of the race (35.22).

A few factors need to fall into place for her on Saturday but with rain about and the rail back in the true position, the track should set up very well for those drawn middle to wide barriers.

From gate 14, look for Josh Parr to ride her how she jumps, with plan 'A' to slot in midfield with cover. If that doesn't eventuate, she'll be restrained to last.

Either way, she'll be able to get to what should be the best going in the straight and show us her strong finish late.

The $18 is genuine overs. There is no reason to suggest she won't run a career peak on Saturday and with even luck in running, she'll give us a massive sight.

Randwick Race 8 #7 Icebath $9.50

This 5YO mare is absolutely flying on unsuitably dry tracks.

She has produced a rain dance just in time for the Epsom Handicap where she is set to peak.

She's coming off a barn-storming run in the Golden Pendant where she recorded the meeting's fastest last 400m (21.56) and last 200m (10.78). Only the elite can break 11 seconds in their two final splits in races.

The 7 day back-up onto a soft track over 1600m his formula that has worked twice for her in the past, where she finished 2nd in the Doncaster Mile and Golden Eagle.

She is drawn out, but that should be to her advantage with the rail in the true. Given we'll see a high pressure race, I think the middle to outside of the Randwick straight will be the superior going.

She's going great guns and I'm backing her to win her first Group 1 this Saturday.
