It's National Day in Hong Kong, and what better way to celebrate it than a 10 event card on Sha Tin's "A" course.
The weather will be nice on Friday, whilst the ground will be be good to firm under the afternoon sun.
The feature race comes in Race 8, the Group 3 National Day Cup over 1000m. Sky Field is the highest-rated horse and he will race over the straight course for the first time.
Apart from the main event, some star horses will also be on show including the David Hayes trained Lord Thunder in Race 2 and Nervous Witness in Race 5. Both of those runners are chasing their second consecutive victory.
Sha Tin Race 1 #5 Good News $1.80
In what is a weak field in Race 1, Chris So’s debutant Good News looks the standout.
Sired by Rios out of a Fast 'N' Famous mare, you can expect this 4YO to perform well in Hong Kong judging by the other sons of Rios, Simply Invincible and Charge On.
Zac Purton takes the ride after being on board in all four barrier trials in prepartion for this debut outing.
On his recent trial on 21 September, he had good early speed and finished strongly with other top horses like Californiadeepshot and Sky Field.
He looks set to kick off his racing career in style.
Sha Tin Race 4 #3 Viva Popcorn $4.40
Viva Popcorn will race up to the 1800m for the first time here, which should suit this Farhh gelding well.
The 4YO strung together some consistent performances towards the end of last season, and he also ran well last time out.
At his last start in the season opener over 1400m, he showed a strong turn of foot to run second behind Victorious Leader.
He's since had enough rest in the lead up to this clash and he had an encouraging barrier trial last Tuesday.
Karis Teetan will be on board again and gate 13 poses no concern as he's overcome a wide draw before.
Expect him to break the maiden shackles here.
