Best bets for midweek racing

Free racing tip from Michael Gannon

The Kensington track is currently rated a Soft 7, with the rail out 2m the entire circuit.

Punters can expect on-pace runners to get the better time of it early, before the track evens out as the meeting progresses.

Kensington Race 1 Tip #2 Promotions $5.00

This son of Exceed And Excel performed well above market expectation last start, when running 0.2 length second to his stablemate over 1300m at Warwick Farm.

In what could only be described as a strangely run race, Promotions did plenty of work to hold a forward position and then showed tenacity to kick back after being well headed at the 100m.

It was a display which indicates that the rise in distance here will suit.

The winner of that race, Avon River, then went on to contest the Group Three Up and Coming Stakes. Despite a poor draw and sitting a distant last the entire race, she managed to close off well to finish 4.4 lengths off the talented True Detective.

Champion jockey James McDonald has been booked to ride the Godolphin runner. With limited speed engaged in the race, expect him to push forward from barrier seven and apply some pressure to the short-priced favourite, Entene.

This looks a race in two and with the fitness edge, Promotions looks a great bet at the $5 fixed odds.

Free racing tip from Ben Beare

The Sandown Lakeside track is rated a Soft 5, with the rail out 12m the entire circuit.

With give in the ground and the rail so far out, back-markers will likely find it difficult to make up ground.

Sandown Lakeside Race 2 Tip #11 Converging $21 each-way

This galloper has been improving at each run since resuming from a spell.

His last two hit-outs have been full of promise, finishing 2.3 lengths sixth over 2060m and then 1.6 lengths fifth over 2400m at Sandown.

While this is a step up in grade, the mare is nearing peak fitness fourth-up and gets a 3kg weight drop, as well as gaining the services of an in-form Linda Meech.

These three factors combined should see this girl ultra-competitive in this race.

With moderate speed engaged and jumping from the good draw in barrier five, expect Meech to sit just forward off mid-field and afforded a cosy run in transit.

She's won twice on Soft going and appreciates a bit of give in the ground, which she's likely to get on Wednesday.

The $21 fixed odds represents great each-way value and it wouldn't shock to see her winning at the big price.
