Best bets on Golden Rose day

 AAP

A drying Rosehill Gardens plays host to a fantastic card of racing this Saturday, headlined by the Group One Golden Rose.

The stallion making race has been won by plenty of stars of the turf, including the likes of The Autumn Sun (2018), Trapeze Artist (2017) and Zoustar (2013).

The early favourite for this year's Golden Rose is the James Cummings trained Bivouac, who comes here via a dominant win in a key lead up race, the Run To The Rose.

The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail in the true position.

With this set-up all runners will get their chance, with race tempo likely to dictate the chances of back-markers.

Rosehill Race 3 Tip #5 Catch Me $9.00

This filly impressed against a strong track bias last start and appears to have recpatured her two-year-old form.

After a tardy start from the wide barrier, she sat last in a field of ten before flying home to finish within 1 length of the winner.

She was one of the only runners on the day to make good ground from the back and did so against the older gallopers.

While this is a Listed race, she drops back to her own age group, with many of her rivals here first-up and vulnerable.

From barrier five, expect Brenton Avdulla to hold a mid-field position in the run.

He'll then be able to produce the filly on turning for home to run over the top of the leaders late at a great price.

Rosehill Race 6 Tip #8 Scarlet Dream $5.00

This mare from the Mark Newnham stable ran well over the 2000m second-up and looks set to explode at her third-up run, now out to 2400m.

Her only run at 2400m came in the Group One Australian Oaks, where she ran a brilliant second to the highly touted Verry Elleegant.

If Verry Elleegant was lining up here, she would start a very short-priced favourite.

There is no doubt Scarlet Dream would have taken plenty of benefit from her second hit-out and on the quick back-up, she'll strip fitter for that run.

I suspect the stable have had this plan in mind and the booking of Tim Clark indicates that she's been set to win.
