Randwick best bets

After some recent rain in Sydney, Royal Randwick has been drying slower than a wet week and goes up to a Heavy 9 for Saturday's competitive nine-race card.

With the rail in the true position, on-pace runners look set to get a leg up in the early races before it evens out later in the day.

There are five short-priced favourites on the card, with a few of them looking vulnerable given the current track set-up.

Both of our best bet selections are proven on a rain affected surface and look set to peak for this run.

Randwick Race 2 Tip #7 True Detective 2.00

This promising colt from the Waller yard ran well on a Heavy 9 first-up, when going down narrowly to the highly touted Spend.

The 4.4 length gap back to third in that run suggests the top two were in a different league to their rivals, with that class set to rise to the top again here.

This son of Shamus Award drops 1.5kg for this hit-out, and he's drawn well enough in barrier six to make use of the light-weight and push forward to sit on the pace.

From there you'd expect his class to prevail and favourite backers to rejoice.

True Detective looks the best of the short-priced favourites on the card and the $2 fixed odds is reasonable given his exposed form.

Randwick Race 3 Tip #8 Our Winnie $11.00

Followers of this girl would have been seething after watching her run fourth at the each-way odds of $16 last start.

The stewards report suggested she missed the start, before being hampered at the 200m mark and missing third place by 0.1 length.

To make matters worse, jockey Glen Schofield was suspended for failing to ride her out to the end of the race.

She gets back to her favourite distance of 1600m here, where she's had four wins and a place from ten starts.

Look for her to settle no less than four-lengths off the leaders in the small field and she certainly has the turn of foot to run the leaders down.

While this is a rise in grade, she drops 7kg after the claim for Brock Ryan and is a genuine winning chance against mediocre company.

If the sunshine continues the track is likely to be upgraded to the Soft range, a surface she's proven on.

The $11 quote looks well over the odds and you can expect the mare to reward followers after her last start heartache.
