We head to Wyong on Thursday for racing in NSW, with a solid six-race card giving punters plenty to ponder.

The track is currently rated a Soft 5 and mostly fine weather is predicted for the central coast region.

The rail is in the True position and history shows that being in the leading group on the bend is advantageous at Wyong.

From the stewards

The horse I want to mention in the pre-steward's report is Segosha who lines up in Race 2.

The Exceed and Excel filly was poor on debut, with Jeff Penza stating "she failed to respond to his urgings and when he had concerns with the filly over the final 150m, he desisted from riding". It was later revealed that the filly was slow to recover and was ordered to trial before coming back.

She has since trialled impressively and looks raring to go. I expect a much improved performance at the $4.00 mark.

Jockey to follow

Young apprentice Tom Sherry has the best stats of the riders at Wyong today.

Sherry has had 37 rides here in the past 12 months, winning 8 at a strike rate of 22%.

Sherry has a full book of rides, with best coming in Race 3 on Lord Tropicana.

Wyong Race 3 Tip #5 Qinghai Lake $3.80

The Savabeel colt has been in some good form and is ready to win today.

Last start he loomed up to win after doing all the work outside the lead, before being overrun by Celtic Love late in the piece. The horses around him were all backmarkers, which indicated how strong he was to the line.

He steps-up to 2100m for the first time here, but being from Savabeel he should handle the extra trip without any issues. The addition of blinkers and Christian Reith are a plus.

He has good early speed, so Reith just needs to get him to settle and preserve the energy for the sprint home. If he can do that, he will out-sprint this lot around the tight track.

I have this colt marked a $2.80 chance, so at the $3.80 he represents great value.
