Thursday racing heads to Illawarra this week, with a challenging eight race card giving punters plenty to ponder.

The Kembla Grange track is currently rated a Soft 6 and there is sunshine forecast for the south coast region.

The rail is in the 8m position from the 1100m to the winning post and 6m the remainder.

At this set-up, expect runners to spread around the bend early and find the outside rail towards the end of the day.

From the stewards

Ultimate Thinker goes around in race 5 today, after having excuses last start at Warwick Farm.

The So You Think filly began awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field before finishing 5 of 6.

Post-race, it was revealed she was slow to recover and was displaying an abnormal respiratory noise.

A vet examination revealed a degree of mucopus, which required treatment.

Given that information, I'm willing to forgive that last start failure and think she's well placed here back to the provincials.

Jockey to follow

Tom Sherry has the best stats of the riders today at Kembla Grange.

Sherry has had 48 mounts here in the past 12 months, winning 11 at a strike rate of 23%.

With his 1.5kg claim, Sherry is booked for 2 rides with his best chance coming in Race 8 on Constanzia.

I've identified 3-races on today's card that represent good betting opportunities. Below is my best bet on the card and my quaddie numbers.

Kembla Grange Race 8 Tip #5 Constanzia $5.50

The Pierro mare is chasing a hat-trick of wins when she makes the trip down to Kembla Grange today.

Two starts ago, she was dominant over this distance at Tuncurry on the Soft 6, before backing it up at Cessnock last time out over the same distance.

The form has stood up nicely from that victory at Cessnock, with Joy For Us coming out and winning the Aberdeen Cup at Muswellbrook.

The mare stays at the same distance for this assignment and despite going up in grade, winning form is good form and I see no reason why she's not up to it.

She is bred to handle the wet going and with Tom Sherry booked, she gets the luxury of the 1.5kg claim.

From the wide draw, expect Sherry to find a spot midfield with cover.

She has a brilliant will to win and with fitness on her side, I expect her to be mighty hard to hold out.

Kembla Grange Quaddie Numbers

Race 6: 1, 3, 6, 7, 8

Race 7: 2, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11

Race 8: 3, 4, 5, 6, 11
