The Ipswich Cup is a staying race held over 2150m, with runners competing for $175,000 in prizemoney.

Punters will have their work cut out for them, with the 2019 edition lacking high-profile horses which have competed for the Listed honours in previous years.

The early favourite is Fighting Teo, who is aiming to make it three wins on-the-trot following a 1.5-length victory in a class five at Toowoomba.

Top-weight Sampson will be looking to bounce back after failing to impress in the Group 2 PJ O'Shea last start and will be suited by the big drop in grade.

Race Track Ipswich Track Traits

The Ipswich track is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail in the true position.

Jumping from the top of the home straight, runners have plenty of time to find a position in the run, with no notable bias present.

Market Movers Racing Market Movers

The smart money has come for two runners.

Former Victorian horse Master Zephyr has been specked at nice odds from $17 into $13, whilst Kiwi raider Terra Sancta is into $8 from $10 openers.

Horse Racing Key Runners

#1 Sampson $15.00

Won the NZ Ledger by 8 lengths, but has failed to recapture that form since crossing the ditch.

He had a great run in the Group 2 PJ O'Shea, but still finished 11 lengths off the winner.

The drop in grade suits, but he'll need to turn his form around to figure here. Next!

#2 Bergerac $4.60

Ran well in Group Three company at his first two runs this prep.

He was then well supported in betting late last start, before being denied a crack at them in the straight in what was a total forgive run.

The step up in distance here looks ideal and with even luck, he'll be fighting out the finish.

#3 First Crush $16.00

Was beaten 1.35 lengths in the Group Three Chairman's over 2000m at Doomben, before failing miserably in the Group Three Premiers Cup.

Looks hard to recommend on his last start failure. Pass!

#5 Master Zephyr $17.00 > $13.00

Faded late last start, when he stepped up in grade and out to the 2400m.

He's won two from three at the distance and is very well suited dropping back to softer class.

Has drawn perfectly and will be fighting out the finish.

Well over the odds. Yes!

#6 High Opinion $4.40

It's been 496 days since his last victory and this Kris Lees trained runner is fast becoming a non-winner.

He finished 6.9 lengths off them in only a moderate Listed race last start and his form prior to that wasn't much chop.

Looks well past his best and at the $4.40, he looks under the odds.

#7 Fighting Teo $3.50

Was dominant last start when his class shone through in a class five race.

This is a big step up in grade, but he's in winning form which will take him a long way.

From the soft draw in barrier two and carrying only 54kg, there is no doubt he'll be fighting out the finish.

#8 Ruby Guru $11.00

An on-pace runner who has form around this distance range.

She has drawn well and is rock-hard-fit.

Although she has scope for improvement, the rise in class is the big query.

#9 Zanyetta $34.00

Her two runs since crossing the Tasman have been pleasing and she now gets her chance at the longer distance.

She's won 3 from 8 at the trip and has previously won third-up.

From the inside barrier, she'll be able to hold a forward position in the run and looks set to receive the run of the race.

Looks well over the odds and must be included in all exotics.

#10 Terra Sancta $10.00 > $8.00

This ex-Kiwi has struggled at her two Australian runs, but now steps out to a more suitable distance and can improve.

Was well beaten by long shot Zanyetta last start and it's hard to see her turning the tables on the mare here.

There has been market support, but it's hard to know why. Pass!
