Scone plays host to an eight-race card on Saturday for Day 2 of the Scone Carnival.

The track is currently rated a Soft 5 with the rail set to go out 3m from the 800m to the winning post.

With light showers predicted throughout Friday and fine but cool conditions forecast for Saturday, expect the track to remain in the Soft range.

Given it's the second day of the carnival, punters can expect jockeys to be searching for better ground as the meeting continues.

Scone Race 1 Tip #6 Wild Planet $3.50

This gelding from the Hawkes stable is always competitive, with the margin from the winner for his last four starts never more than 0.6 length.

What makes that statistic even more impressive is that all of these runs have been between Listed and Group 3 level.

His first-up effort on a Heavy 8 in the Darby Munro was impressive and given the speed was on, he found plenty to run a 0.3-length second.

He then followed that run with a strong third in Listed company, where he was caught three-wide for the majority of the race but still managed to finish less than half a length off the winner.

Staying at the 1400m suits third-up and now rock-hard-fit he'll make good use of the inside draw to position in just behind the leaders and receive the run of the race.

He hasn't had much luck this prep but it appears the tide will turn, and with even luck, he'll be saluting here.

Scone Race 2 Tip #4 The Bandit $18.00 each-way

The gelding from the Richard Freedman stable produced a huge effort first-up when winning the Muswellbrook Cup over 1500m.

His next run was honest but he looked to be a little flat second-up over the 1800m. He is more suited here with the step-up  in distance to 2200m.

Drawn barrier four, look for jockey Christian Reith to ride conservatively from the soft barrier and find a position mid-field.

I'm banking on him reproducing a similar sprint to his first-up effort and if he does, he'll be very competitive.

The $18 quote looks well over the odds for this galloper and allows punters to play each-way if they wish.
