Championships Day pro plunges

Day 1 of the Championships has attracted a number of strong betting moves for a select few runners at Randwick. Caulfield hasn't escaped the attention either, with pro punters featuring in plenty of vicious betting plunges.

Last week we struck twice in Sydney, with Bellevue Hill and Star Of The Seas both saluting at Rosehill.

Both these runners started well below the initial price identified in this column.

Heir To The Throne

Is from the shrewd Henry Dwyer stable for owners who do enjoy a bet.

He was good first-up at Sandown last start when closed strongly late to grab second.

Now up sharply in distance (1300m to 1600m ) he is sure to be showing connections at home, all the signs that he will relish the extra trip.

Smart stable who would have encouraged connections to bet on him.

La Tigeresa

Has been a very strong move and does drop way down in grade from Group level at her past two starts, to now line-up in benchmark 84 class.

The ability is certainly present where she has already won 2 from 5 this prep and has never missed when starting favourite.

She will be rock hard fit and wound up ready to go. Yes.

Mr Quickie

Keeps on winning, shooting for his seventh straight victory here.

Phillip Stokes has placed him beautifully. Still racing against his own 3yo age group on Saturday, he will be extremely hard to beat again.

With the rail out 10m at Caulfield, those tracking wide with cover are likely be well suited. This pattern will suit his racing style where he generally likes to get back and storm late.

Should simply win again.

Heptagon

Was very dominant winning the Echuca Cup at his previous start after sitting up midfield and then powering away in the home straight.

Back to town now at Caulfield where he did have success three starts ago after being heavily backed late ($5 into $4.40).

Mick Price has him flying and the stable rarely miss when they bet on one.

One of the best bets all day.

Randwick tips from early market moves

Athiri

Is all class and comes out of some high quality 2yo feature races, including the Blue Diamond.

She drops down a notch in grade here and will appreciate the class respite.

The speed map has her getting the dream run just in behind the leaders, and from there J Mac can peel and run over the top of them all late.

Never far away at her past few and finally finds the right race. Yes.

Amangiri

Brained them at her past two starts in much weaker grade and it often pays to follow the money for a horse stepping up sharply in class.

She enjoys racing forward and from the wide draw (gate 19), should have no trouble burning across the face of the field to dictate from out in front.

Berry and Team Hawkes combine which is often lethal if the money is on, and this looks a very genuine betting move.

Noble Boy

Was one of the best-backed runners nationwide three starts ago at Warwick Farm and duly saluted with ease.

Since then he failed once before jumping back in the winner's circle last start in the Championship Wildcard.

The theory is Randwick will suit him well as he does enjoy stoking up with a long sustained run.

Just needs to hold form to be winning this with ease. Yes.

Self Sense

Came with a ripping run at his latest outing to secure the Caulfield Cup ticket which is associated with a Mornington Cup win.

He is trained by one of the best staying brains in the business in David Brideoake and with a rain-affected surface present, the extra hard slog will suit.

Will get back and come ploughing through the ground late, in a fine display of stoutness.
