Best bets for midweek races

Free racing tips from Ben Beare

Kensington Race 1 #2 Deep Sea $4

This two-year-old gelding from the Mark Newnham stable has shown ability in both of his trials.

When stepping out in his first trial at Rosehill, he was made to hit the line under the urging of Josh Parr. He finished in front of some handy company on that occasion, with the Godolphin trained Bivouac amongst the field.

The second hit-out was more impressive, running just behind the Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre in good time. Deep Sea wasn’t far off in second and was making ground late to pull almost equal with Lyre past the post.

He looks a talented galloper with a bright future.

Sandown Race 2 #5 Kings Brook $4.80

Always had time for this three-year-old filly from the Brideoake yard, who has raced in good company since her debut in May last year.

Her trial leading into the first-up win at Moonee Valley this prep was soft, so I expect her fitness to have improved significantly for this.

She drops in weight, strips fitter and is a proven winner. Expect to see her fighting out the finish again.

Kensington Race 1 #2 Deep Sea $4

This Deep Field gelding has trialed enormously in the lead-up to his first-career start.

In his most recent trial, he finished behind Blue Diamond winner and Gold Slipper placegetter, Lyre. This form suggests that he is a classy galloper and he meets a mediocre field here.

The jockey and trainer combination of Josh Parr and Mark Newnham has been on fire of late and will pay to follow.

Drawn perfectly in barrier five, expect Parr to take an on-pace position, before putting his rivals away in the straight.

Kensington Race 3 #5 The Tenor $5

The Kris Lees trained galloper put in the worst run of his career last start, but looks set to bounce back to his best in this race.

He had excuses on that occasion and now gets the tongue tie on, drops in weight and gets champion jockey Hugh Bowman to ride. The gelding also boats a proven Soft track record and has won at the distance.

All signs indicate that Lees has the Your Song gelding ready to rumble.

After opening at $7.50, he's been crunched into $5 fixed odds which suggests the stable are confident of a form reversal.

With plenty of speed engaged you can expect Bowman to sit near last and fly over the top late.
