Brisbane best bets and tips

Our Brisbane best bets have been on fire, producing two winners from three last week. The highlight was Vaucluse Bay, who opened $5 before saluting at an starting price of $3.90.

Confidence is sky high as we head back to Eagle Farm, where the track is currently rated a Good 4 with the rail out 8m the entire circuit.

There are scattered showers forecast for Friday, but we're currently working to a dry track which should provide all runners with an even racing surface. Expect race tempo to dictate any perceived bias.

Eagle Farm Race 2 Tip #3 Raiden $4.80

This Kris Lees trained galloper looks back to his best after impressing two starts back with a strong win. He followed that up with a solid second after being forced back to near last from the widest barrier.

This is a step-up in grade, but he has been competitive in strong Sydney benchmark company and should handle the class rise from last start with ease.

He drops 2kg from his recent outing and has won and been placed twice over the distance. There is plenty of speed engaged in this small field and he looks set to receive speed-map favours off a cracking pace.

He comes into barrier seven after a scratching, which should allow him a gun run three pairs back with cover. His closing sectionals are as strong, if not better than any runner in the field. If he receives the predicted economical run, it'll be all over bar the shouting.

Eagle Farm Race 3 Tip #3 Wu Gok $9.00

This Sebring gelding from the Chris Waller yard raced against his usual pattern last start, when he was pushed forward from the wide barrier to take up the lead. It wasn't the best effort from Jeff Lloyd, who found himself four-wide on the first turn and took 500m to find the front.

He was then pressured at the 1000m mark and consequently cramped for room at the 350m to finish seventh, 6.1 lengths off the winner. On closer look, the run was huge. As long as he has taken no ill effects from the run, he's right in contention here.

Drawn barrier six, expect Lloyd to head forward once again to find the lead or thereabouts without using up too much petrol.

His record at the distance is solid, with two wins and a place from five starts. Now at his second Queensland start you'd think he'd now be well climatised and ready to fire.

Happy to forgive that run and looking to follow any early market leads.
