AAPTagged: Flemington, TheMelbourneMail
Racing returns to Flemington for Group One Australian Guineas day, with the 1600m event nestled within a stacked nine-race card that includes other features such as the Blamey Stakes and Tressady Stakes.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 and with fine weather predicted, participants will be met with a dry racing surface.
The rail is out 2m the entire circuit and at this set-up, the track should race in perfect order.
Caulfield Tips from TheMelbourneMail
Flemington Race 5 Tip #10 Muntaseera $5.50
In what looks a very tricky edition of the Listed Bob Hoysted down the 1000m straight, the Maher & Eustace trained Muntaseera looks to be the value play at her current quote.
Returning to the races today, she comes here fresh off the back of a strong jump out and subsequent trial win at Cranbourne.
In the jump out back in late January, she held ground very well alongside top level city horses and it was recorded in the quickest time of the morning.
She then went to the 800m trial and sat off-speed, and put them away very impressively under no riding. She showed a sharp turn of foot in that clash, and all indications are that she has returned in good form.
Speaking of form, three runs last prep included a first-up victory over this 1000m trip beating Valaquenta. She then finished 2nd to subsequent Group 1 place getter Swats That, before running fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore.
She is a clearly a smart filly who draws perfectly out wider here down the straight, and will sit back off what is likely to be a very hot speed.
From there she can peel out wide late and run over the top of them.
Flemington Race 6 Tip #11 Buffalo River $2.80
Off a pure speed map perspective here, it would be hard not to put Buffalo River on top. But nonetheless, there's a few other reasons that this Moroney gelding gets the nod as top selection here in the Group 2 Blamey Stakes.
She comes here off a very gallant effort behind Regardsmaree over 1400m at this track. He sat in behind the leader that day, and probably found the front a touch too soon before being nailed late on the line.
It was a high rating run and only a few points below his career best, which indicates that he has returned this prep very well.
Fitter now second-up and stepping out to the mile will really suit, with scope for improvement. Last prep second-up, he ran 2nd to Mr Quickie in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap over this distance, so he looks very well placed here.
Finally, the speed map ticks all the boxes you want to see.
He looks to get a very comfortable time out in the lead, with absolutely no other speed horses on paper.
If he can dictate terms in front, I doubt he gets beaten.
Jamie Kah sticks aboard down to the 55kg, and it finally looks time for him to add a group win to his steadily building resume.
