Horse Racing tips from Michael Gannon
NSW hosts two Country race meetings on Monday, with competitive cards scheduled for Queanbeyan and Bathurst.
There will be seven races run and won at Queanbeyan, where the track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position.
Meanwhile at Bathurst, we'll be racing on a Good 4 surface and the rail is out 2m from the 1200m - 350m mark before the cutaway applies.
The weather is forecast to be fine for most of the day across the state, with some possible late storms forecast.
Bathurst Race 4 Tip #3 Rockover $10.00
This son of Vancouver was solid on debut when running seventh, 3.81 lengths off the winner.
He jumped well on that occasion, but found himself behind a plodder who jump to lead and was then restrained quickly.
This resulted in Rockover going from fifth behind the leader after 200m to 11 of 12 at the 400m mark.
Granted that he may have hit a flat spot mid-race, but he looked to be a victim of circumstances more than anything.
He was then forced to race in the inferior inside ground the entire straight and suffered some interference late in the piece.
Given the torrid run, that debut effort was more than a pass mark and there is no doubt he'll improve off that today.
From barrier 3 with an in-form Kathy O'Hara onboard, I expect him to sit on-pace today and sit in the running line.
With even luck in the run, we'll see a big improvement and it wouldn't shock to see him produce an upset at good odds.
Queanbeyan Race 1 Tip #3 King Gutho 3.60
This 2YO gelding broke his maiden in fine style last start and looks set to go on with it today.
Sitting on-pace, he peeled off heels before putting a nice gap in his rivals to win by 1.44 lengths.
He'll have to beat some more mature gallopers today, but he carries 1kg less than last start and no doubt has more upside than his rivals.
He maps to sit off the nominated leader, Merc, and punters should expect to see a rinse and repeat of his last run.
