Pakenham Cup Day Tips 2018

Feature race previews & tips
AAPThe Pakenham stand-alone Saturday card has attracted a number of high-profile horses, who are continuing beyond their main Spring targets.
The fields look wide open and should provide punters with some excellent betting opportunities.
Moves late in betting will provide a strong guide and add confidence to your selections.
The feature Listed Pakenham Cup will be a great spectacle and I have gone against the favourite, opting instead for one who can bounce back to winning form after being outclassed in the Melbourne Cup.
Race 6 Schweppes David Bourke Memorial Hcp 1600m
There looks to be a distinct lack of speed here with Our Botinno (6) likely to secure the lead with ease.
He fought hard in a similar position when placing at Donald and could get away with some very cheap sectionals out in front.
Others that can be close to speed are Fastnet Latina (8) and Beauty Way (9), with the latter having her first Australian start after making the the trip from New Zealand via Hong Kong and the UK.
She has shown enough to suggest she has a touch of quality and only strikes a moderate field here.
Race favourite Torgerson (1) brings strong Sydney form in addition to his last start 2 of 13 in the Kilmore Cup, and has a definite class edge.
However, he'll have to overcome the unfavourable speed map (will get back in a slowly run race) and carry the weight (60kg) to figure in the finish.
Throw in Kilimanjaro if looking for value at a big price ($15), who can suck up along the rail and could be closer in the run than most expect.
Best Racing Tips
1st Beauty Way
2nd Our Botinno
3rd Fastnet Latina
4th Torgerson
Race 7 Pakenham Cup 2500m
The feature race has attracted a high quality field, with high profile trainers from both states supporting with entries.
The speed looks very genuine with Runaway (5), Our Big Mike (9) and Pilote D'Essai (7) all likely to rush forward in search of the lead.
Expect Runaway (5) to win the charge of the light brigade and take this up, where he has proven very hard to run down as seen in his thrilling Geelong Cup victory two starts back.
Of the run-on profiles, Kiwia (3) and Dal Harrailed (1) should both get the strong tempo to suit and can take up positions midfield before charging late.
The latter comes up favourite in betting for this at $2.75, which looks a shade unders to my eye considering he has to lump 60kg. This is clearly an afterthought for connections following a busy Spring program.
Don't forget Tally (2) who returned to winning form last start at Group 3 level in the Eclipse Stakes at Sandown.
He has a touch of quality and could easily go back-to-back in this.
Best Racing Tips
1st Runaway
2nd Kiwia
3rd Dal Harrailed
4th Tally
Race 8 Racing.com Vobis Gold Bullion (SW-P) 1400m
Rich restricted race for Vobis entries, that should prove to be an interesting betting affair.
Speed will come from Lord Sundowner (9) and Chippenham (8), who will both charge across from wider draws.
Chippenham should find the rail and can drop anchor and dictate to them, provided nothing else is desperate to lead.
Choisborder (4) looks to get the run of the race from gate 4 and has an excellent SP profile, where he's always in the market.
He won well last start at Ararat and has the lethal Weir/Allen combo, so you can expect him to figure in the finish.
Others who will position midfield and run home hard include Soi Si Bon (7) and Mr Money Bags (3).
The former brings top quality stakes form from town, where he was was only beaten 1.6 lengths in Group 3 level at Flemington last start.
Best Racing Tips
1st Choisborder
2nd Chippenham
3rd Soi Si Bon
4th Lord Sundowner
Race 9 Racing Form Hcp 1200m
A high-quality field is entered to round out the day here, with plenty of Group 1 performed types looking to capitalise on a drop down in grade.
Betting should be robust with most of these horses well known to punters and the "get out stakes" often lifting turnover.
Speed comes from right across the field and they'll likely go full throttle, with plenty keen to find the front.
This has the potential to set the race up for a run-on profile and both Sylpheed (7) and Suspense (10) fit this brief.
They will both be tucked in behind and can present at the right time to run home hard over the top.
Although drawn out, Proud Wolf (13) has to be respected going off the last start second at Ballarat in good grade.
He will relish the speed up front and with any luck, find a position in the moving line before arriving late to figure in the finish.
The quality is clearly Theanswermyfriend (1) who has Group form, although he is asked to lump a severe impost of 61kg.
Others with the class edge include Stellar Collision (3) and Keen Array (4).
Best Racing Tips
1st Proud Wolf
2nd Suspense
3rd Stellar Collision
4th Theanswermyfriend
