Horse Racing Gutless Stakes 2018

Tagged: Horse Racing

One last crack for the biggest flops of the year

Racing's biggest flops of 2018 will converge for the second edition of the “Gutless Stakes”, following the success of last year's inaugraul event.

The race has again attracted a field of high-profile money munchers and runners who have had punters ripping up betting tickets all year.

The line-up is comprised of some genuine flops and we've settled on one that has gone off the boil in recent times, however can turn it all around here given one last chance by punters. Get on!

Gutless Stakes Form Guide

Tom Melbourne

A bookie's favourite, Tom makes back-to-back Gutless Stakes fields following an excruciating run of outs and another winless year.

He placed three times at Group level meaning connections captured plenty of stakes money, however the purse is not likely to be considered life changing for any of the high-profile ownership group run by Terry Henderson’s OTI syndications.

Predicted Finish: Genuine top 3 chance, with no chance of winning!

Magic Circle

His owner promised the world a win in this year's Melbourne Cup, which included a post win strip tease celebration!

However, the male G-String reveal never threatened and eccentric billionaire Marwan Koukash returned home to London in boxer shorts with no Cup trophy.

Predicted Finish: Will be first past the post to the displeasure of the VRC, who will eject a G-String clad Koukash from the winner's enclosure, before the horse loses the race on protest.

Nature Strip

Was the fastest horse Daren Weir has ever trained!

If this is the case Darren, why didn’t we see him in The Everest?

He was likely only ever going to be a speedy squib, after capitulating last start over 1000m at Moonee Valley when 8 of 11 in Viddora’s Moir Stakes.

Just keep him to 800m races please Darren.

Predicted finish: First at the 800m mark before dropping out to finish last.

Viridine

Godolphin have had a stellar year, however one from their stable is entered here and has a huge chance of being crowned the most Gutless of them all.

This colt won the Roman Consol and The Heritage both at stakes level, however has been completely outclassed since after Team Blue raised the bar with tougher assignments.

Can bounce back from a dismal 12 of 16 finish last start in Listed level at Flemington.

Predicted Finish: Can turn it all around and must go on top. Yes

Egyptian Symbol

Won the Group 2 Toy Show Quality this year at Randwick, which suckered in plenty of punters at the following three starts where she failed in all.

She was also heavily backed in the last few seconds of betting to win the Magic Millions sprint early in the year, before proving no match for the winner.

Bjorn Baker could surprise here coming off a 5 month spell. Watch betting again.

Predicted Finish: Only wins if the money arrives late in betting. Yes.

Kings Will Dream

The 2018 Caulfield Cup favourite in early betting markets is a worthy contender here.

The gelding promised the world in his first few starts, before letting punters and connections down all throughout Spring.

He teased us with some outstanding run-on efforts, before failing dismally as Caulfield Cup favourite and chalking up a DNF in the Cox Plate.

The alluring run-on profile is just too hard to ignore again. Must include.

Predicted Finish: Will power home hard to just miss.

Chautauqua

The John Farnham of horse racing is first emergency for the Gutless Stakes and stewards will give him one last chance to determine his eligibility for the race, following a trial between races at Randwick.

If the 'grey flash' again decides to stay in the barriers, this will be the fifth time he fails to jump.

Don’t like his chances. No.

Predicted Finish: Won’t jump and will finally hang the hooves up....until next Autumn.
