Launceston plays host to an exciting eight race card on Wednesday night, headlined by the Listed Tasmanian Newmarket. The 1200m clash is the first of many feature races in Tasmania over the Summer Carnival.

The track is rated a Good 4, with clear weather expected throughout the night. The rail is out 3m for the entire circuit and at this set-up, the track should play fair.

Launceston Race 5 Tip #1 Mandela Effect $3.00

The Scott Brunton trained gelding lines up here following a Spring Carnival campaign in Melbourne.

He finished a luckless ninth in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes before disappointing in the Toorak Handicap.

He drops down in class for this clash and returns to his favourite track, where he is yet to finish worse than second (8:5-3-0).

The negative is that he has to carry the top weight of 59.5kg and concede as much as 5.5kg to the rest of the field, but undoubtedly the class horse in the race.

From barrier 4, I’m predicting the experienced David Pires to settle him midfield before unleashing the gelding down the straight to give him every possible chance to win.

Launceston Race 6 Tip #9 Our Shinkansen $2.90

The Adam Trinder trained four-year-old bay mare will be attempting to win her third race this preparation here, and I think she's well placed to do so.

Her win last start over 1220m was impressive. She settled off the pace before racing four-wide around the home turn and unleashing down the outside to score a narrow win.

It’s worth noting that she beat the talented three-year-old War Correspondent, who went on to convincingly win the $100,000 three-year-old cup.

Brendon McCoull stays on and the rise to 1400m suits, but she may need some luck from barrier 10.

The Trinder stable has been in terrific form this month, saddling up 19 horses for 6 wins and 7 placings, including a treble last Saturday.

Looks a good thing!
