Melbourne Cup day 2017 speed map specials
Which horses get the track favours on Melbourne Cup day?
Steve HartFlemington looks set to favour on-pace runners for Melbourne Cup day after Saturday's meeting produced the same pattern. With the rail remaining in its true position and clear skies predicted, its hard to draw a different conclusion.
Flemington race 6 #2 Our Crown Mistress
This filly featured in a recent edition of Speed-map Specials when she won her recent outing at Caulfield, and again looks to get the favours of the Flemington set-up. I’m expecting jockey Steve Baster to control the pace over the 1400m, jumping from barrier one. Now into her fifth run this preparation, the Waterhouse-Bott trained filly is extremely fit and it’s hard to see anything going past her. Our Crown Mistress is currently $3.20 fixed odds.
Royal Randwick received some heavy falls in the 24 hours leading up to Melbourne Cup day. With sunshine now predicted throughout the day, there's likely to be some favours for those running off the pace and jumping from mid to wide barriers.
Randwick Race 7 #10 Accepted
The Gary Moore trained gelding can expect to get all the favours this time around with plenty of speed engaged in this race. Jumping from a wide gate, jockey Winona Costin should settle near last and take full advantage of Accepted’s turn of foot in the latter stages of the race. The Randwick set-up looks perfect for this horse and he’s great each value currently at $26 fixed odds.
