We find the gems hidden in your Melbourne Cup day form guide.

We've uncovered some hidden value in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup day form guide to help you get some extra dollars in your wallet before the main show.

Switches

Flemington race 4 #15 Sherlock Holmes

Drops 6.5kg after his impressive victory in the Moonee Valley Handicap on Friday night. Showed his versatility in that race when ridden on the pace while carrying 60.5kg. The step-up from 2500m to 2800m is no concern for Sherlock Holmes having won at the distance in the UK. It wouldn’t surprise to see Corey Brown take a positive ride from the gates again, take the lead and prove hard to catch. Sherlock Holmes is currently $9 fixed odds.

Randwick race 3 #3 Mustafa

Drops significantly in grade from listed to maiden class. The son of Choisir was outclassed at his first career start, after racing wide for most the journey, but is sure to take significant benefit from the run. Mustafa only goes up 0.5kg in weight with apprentice Rachel King claiming 1.5kg. He jumps from barrier three this time around which should see him get a soft run in transit. Mustafa is currently $12 fixed odds.

Previous Start Price v Opening prices

Flemington race 1 #1 Setsuna

Was very impressive in her last start victory at Mooney Valley on Cox Plate Day. Starting $4 favourite, the Waterhouse & Bott trained filly destroyed her rivals when she made her run well behind in the field, to defy the strong leader bias and win convincingly.

With only one other rival having posted a run, it's hard to see a debutant overcoming the race experience of Setsuna and Qafila. Of the pair, Setsuna looks better suited to the Flemington straight. Considering the leader bias which she endured at  Moonee Valley at her recent outing, she looks to be way over the odds at $6.
