3YO stars on show

This week's Caulfield card is overflowing with high quality races, however the three-year-old racing always features as the headline act on Guineas day.

The Caulfield Guineas is considered the premier three-year-old division and it is well supported by the girls only Thousand Guineas, where many future stars have emerged from.

Speed looks to play a crucial role in both of these races and I am with runners who'll be racing forward.

Read on for my analysis of the feature events on the card, including my top selections for each race.

Race 6 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (Group 1 3yo fillies SW) 1600m

The better quality three-year-old fillies are engaged here and with only a moderate tempo predicted, I expect those who race close to speed to hold the advantage. However, the class of race favourite Flit (2) will carry her a long way despite her get back and run-on profile.

Of the on-speed brigade, expect Lyre (2) to be much closer in the run. Jockey Mark Zahra will be able to position just in behind the leaders to enjoy the gun run in transit. She has a touch of class and goes on top.

Acting (6) led all the way in the Prelude and from a good draw, should again jump straight to the front and prove very hard to run past.

Also coming via the Prelude is Tenley (7), who had genuine excuses when she finished 11 of 15 after knuckling at the start. She looks a touch over the odds at the current $12.

Best of the rest is Missile Mantra (11) who wasn't far off the winner in the Prelude (2.45 lengths) and is from the gun Team Snowden yard.

Race 10 Schillaci Stakes (Group 2 WFA) 1100m

This shapes as one of the races of the day, with the winner gaining entry into the world's richest race The Everest. I expect the speed to be genuine, but not overly strong.

Trekking (5) looks very good here and although beaten at Moonee Valley first-up in the Moir Stakes, he had the best late closing sectional of the race and wasn't well suited when Nature Strip got his own way out in front.

Bons Away (8) is the best value bet to my eye and I expect him to be much closer in the run than Trekking. His last start run in the Moir was outstanding, when he came from a long way back.

Ball of Muscle (7) will lead and I can't see any challengers early, where he could get a very soft time of it out in front. If left alone, he'll give a good kick at the end.

Reports are that The Bostonian (3) has attracted some notable bets to win the Everest, and if that's the case he must be showing plenty at home. Include in wider exotics.
