5/10/19 Horse racing Lays of the Day

This week’s Lay selections feature two runners who face significant speed map challenges.

Both have a natural racing profile to get well back in the field and run home hard off a hot speed.

In both of their races, I doubt there will be much speed at all. This will make it very difficult for them to charge home and mow the leaders down.

 

Randwick Race 5 #1 Osborne Bulls $2.90

I have to be against the popular Godolphin hope here given he's first-up in a race with a moderate tempo and far too short for my liking.

He missed a key Randwick lead-up race in order to avoid a wet track and although the stable would have poured the work into him, it can never compare to real race fitness. 

The rider will go back to last as per his usual race pattern. Although stablemate Home Of The Brave will attempt to inject some speed, expect the other leading chances to watch on and not be fooled into chasing him.

I doubt he’ll have the match practice to get past these fitter horses, especially given the race tempo looks weak.

He needs a fast run race where the pressure is clapped on throughout, and this particular event does not fit that profile. Lay.

 

Randwick Race 6 #9 Verry Elleegant $2.90

Scratched from the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes to run here in weaker grade, which is a good indication that they are not up to mixing it with the topliners. 

She has been slightly disappointing since returning to the track, considering she was previously touted as one of the stars of the Spring.

I have to concede that 2000m will suit much better, however she seems to be well below her dynamic best which we saw her display as a three-year-old.

James McDonald will have no choice but to ride her quietly again, given the outside draw in gate 9 and tactical speed horses Angel Of Truth and Samadoubt are likely to dictate proceedings.

You can expect to get much better than $2.90 close to start time and she is a must avoid at the current quote. Lay.
