Hot Caulfield Card

 AAP

This week's Caulfield card is brimming with quality and the feature race, the Caulfield Cup, is well supported by several high quality stakes races.

Punters will be forced to digest a number of different form-lines, with key Sydney horses looking strong throughout the day.

I am ultra keen on one in the Caulfield Sprint, who turned in an eye-catching run at Moonee Valley last start.

Race 6 Ethereal Stakes (Group 3 3yo fillies SW+P) 2000m

Expect the speed to be only moderate here, with Celestial Falls (10) to cruise over from the wide draw and take it up. She has genuine race shape favours and if left alone, will be there at the end.

Snapdancer (6) can punch up along the inside to sit just in behind the leaders and although this is big leap in distance to 2000m from the last start 1400m run, you can trust the Maher stable know she can stay.

Vegas Jewel (13) remains unbeaten and won well over 1600m at Moonee Valley last start, when she was very strong late. Major player here.

Best of the rest is Cape Leopard (8) for master stayer trainer, Pat Carey. Pat has a habit of finding a good one over the Spring carnival and she could well be it. Can win.

4th  Cape Leopard

Race 7 Caulfield Sprint (Group 2 Handicap) 1000m

They will burn early here, with I Am Immortal (9) and Not Enough Effort (9) both set to carve across the face in search of the lead.

Expect I Am Immortal to win the early speed battle. He was not disgraced in the Blue Diamond last prep and looks to have returned well first-up, when he chased steadily at this course and distance.

God Of Thunder (3) was enormous at Moonee Valley last time out, when she charged from the back late. She looks excellent value at the current $5 in betting and goes on top.

The class runner is Mclaren (2) who brings Sydney Group form and has the significant luxury of gate 2. Could blow them all away.

Miss Leonidas (1) is another with a big advantage from the inside draw and she can suck up along the rail for the entire trip. Finished 2 of 15 in the Group 1 Moir Stakes last start!

Race 8 Moonga Stakes (Group 3 4yo and Up SW+P) 1400m

All over Land Of Plenty (2) here, who by all reports has returned in great order and is training the house down in Sydney. He will get back from an inside draw, however there should be enough tempo to allow him to run on.

Streets Of Avalon (9) will be keen to charge across from the wide draw to lead and if left alone, should be kicking hard at the finish.

The inclusion of Terbium (4) smells like a classic set-up. He didn't run to expectation in South Australia last start after jumping $2.60 favourite, and now the Phillip Stokes yard have come straight to the big leagues for this. Very wary and he could well surprise at big odds.

Desert Lord (5) is best of the rest and brings strong Sydney form, where he was only 5.2 lengths off the winner in the Group 1 Epsom. Class.

Race 9  Caulfield Cup (Group 1 Hcp) 2400m

Race 10 Tristarc Stakes (Group 2 Mares SW+P) 1400m

This race has attracted some high quality mares and I'm happy to have Angelic Ruler (14) on top. She is busting to win now and although she gets back, there will be enough tempo to bring her into it.

Jamaican Rain (5) can do something first-up (6:4-0-0) and looks like a runner the mug punters will miss. She has a touch of class and is likely to be good value.

Godolphin duo Savitiano (15) and Pohutukawa (11) are both genuine chances, with each showing enough early in their preparation that suggest they will be strong Spring players.

The blow-out is Bella Martini (6), who comes out of a hot race won by Santa Ana Lane.
