Launceston is the venue for Saturday night racing in Tasmania, with an eight- race card for punters to tear apart.

At the time of writing, the track is rated a Soft 5 with fine weather forecast throughout the meeting.

The rail is out 9m from the 1200m mark to the winning post, whilst the remainder of the circuit is out 7m.

Horses racing on the inside have had the advantage at the last few night meetings but, it's best to watch the first few races to get a guide on how the track will play.

Launceston Race 5 Tip #5 Supalopo $3.35

The Adam Trinder trained four-year-old gelding is attempting to win three in-a-row, and I’m backing him in to do just that in this benchmark 66 contest.

He flew home to beat subsequent Tasmanian Guineas winner Swoop Dog last start over this track and trip, which looks to be the strongest form lines.

Thirty-four days in between runs is a query, but he is yet to miss the quinella from six career starts, all at this track (6:2-4-0).

From barrier 7, I’m predicting Brendon McCoull to settle him midfield before letting him go at the top of the straight to give him every possible chance to win.

Launceston Race 8 Tip #1 Sh’bourne Renegade $4.80

The Bill Ryan trained four-year-old gelding had solid market support before being scratched from the Devonport Cup last Wednesday.

He hit the line strongly for fourth in the Sheffield Cup over 1650m at Devonport in December.

He has since won a trial over 1400m to compensate for missing the Devonport Cup.

He's stepping up to the 2150m for the first time in his career. However, he has given every indication that he is looking for more ground, so I expect him to relish the rise in trip tonight.

From barrier 8, look for Brendon McCoull to settle him midfield and work him into the race before unleashing him at the top of the straight.
