Victoria's sole race meeting today consists of an eight-race card at Kilmore.

The track is currently rated a Good 4, with a slight chance of drizzly showers in the morning and moderate to warm temperatures after a couple of scorching hot days prior.

The rail is in the true position, which will give all horses their chance.

The last meeting here was on November 22, when 6 of the 8 winners were positioned in the first few in running.

I expect leaders to hold an advantage once again, with a fresh surface underfoot.

 

 

Kilmore Race 4 Tip #6 Dissonance $5.10

Both of my best bets are by the five time Group 1 winning stallion Dissident.

This speedster has a wing on every hoof and will prove very hard to run down today.

At his last two runs, he was leading at the 100m mark before folding late on both occasions.

Those efforts were over 1300m and 1400m respectively, so he looks well suited kicking off his campaign over 1200m today. 

From barrier 5, jockey Fred Kersley will take him straight to the front and will kick off the home turn with a healthy lead.

Whether he is able to hold off the late challengers is the question, but I think he can.

 

Kilmore Race 5 Tip #3 Redissent $2.55

The John Maloney trained gelding will find this BM58 a lot easier after coming off a couple of city runs.

Two starts back he was competitive when finishing 1.75 lengths third at Moonee Valley behind Tycoon Bec, who went on to win a BM70 at Flemington.

He stepped up in grade off that run and found himself in a BM70 at Flemington, where he ran 8.7 lengths off Hasseltoff.

He drops significantly back in grade today and with regular rider Patrick Maloney aboard, he is likely to go forward early from gate 5.

Maloney will have a lap full of horse under him on straightening and should take care of this weaker opposition.
