23/1/19 Free horse racing tips for midweek racing

Canterbury hosts midweek racing in Sydney on Wednesday, while Sandown's Lakeside course is the focus in Melbourne.

With fine weather continuing across the Eastern seaboard, punters can be sure that both tracks will be in the Good range on race day.

Canterbury Race 3 Tip #7 Matowi $4.20  

This three-year-old from the Waller stable met a handful of quality gallopers last start and looked well suited by the step back to the mid-weeks. 

The son of the 2012 Cox Plate winner, Ocean Park, is stepping out to the 1550m for the first time this preparation. In a sign of confidence, the stable have elected for their first pick jockey, Hugh Bowman, to take the ride. 

Drawn well in barrier three, Bowman can sit one or two pairs back on the fence, which is a proven formula for success around the tight Canterbury track.  

With even luck, Bowman can angle in the clear on turning for home and let him rip down the middle of the track. 

Matowi looks to have more upside than his rivals, and with bigger targets in sight, he should put this field away comfortably.  

 

Canterbury Race 6 Tip #3 Gayatri $2.60   

There's usually no pat on the back for tipping a $2.60 winner, however, this looks like a put in and take out job for the dynamic Waller and Bowman duo.

The Mare by Pierro is looking to make it back-to-back wins after impressing punters at her last start over the 1800m at Kensington. On that occasion she had plenty of work to do from back in the field, but made light work of it, running through the line with plenty left in the tank. 

Drawn barrier 10, expect Bowman to restrain her to the back of the field and ride patiently. There is plenty of speed engaged which is sure to suit her run on style. 

She looks a class above her rivals here, and you can expect to see this Mare in higher quality races in the future.

Free racing tips from expert Ben Beare

Moe Race 2 Tip #1 Amastryker $1.80 

This four-year-old from the Matt Laurie stable jumped out well and looked to travel better than Smart Style and Godzone Girl who has won five races.

I've always had time for this horse, but she continued to find one better last prep. She has pushed some above average horses all the way including Abyssinian and Nature Strip, and looks set to breakthrough here.

Drawn barrier three, Jockey Ben Melham should take a handy position and be ready to strike on turning for home. 

The Styker mare looks better than maiden grade and should return a winner off the back of a spell.

 

Moe Race 5 Tips #2 Stryker Queen $2.30  

This three-year-old from the Matt Laurie stable has had a few jumpouts.  At her latest, she was given a good workout and showed she's ready to win off a 103-day spell.

Drawn barrier one, expect Damien Thornton to take this horse straight to the lead and prove hard to run down over the short Moe straight.
