What happens if my horse is scratched?

Scratched horses are not counted towards your Career Tipster or Competition history. If you wish to tip in the race you will need to resubmit a tip. You can submit tips up to 2 minutes prior to the advertised start time of the race.

Why don't I appear on the site leader board?

You qualify to appear on the site leader board after entering 10 or more tips. To maintain your position on the leader board you need to tip once within a 15 day period. If you drop off the leader board you will be re-instated after you commence tipping again. When you are re-instated you will be ranked according to your historical Profit % average.

How long before the race starts can I enter my tips?

You can enter your tips up to 2 minutes before the advertised race start time.

What happens if I do not enter the minimum tips within a round for a competition I am playing in?

These are referred to as 'Missed Tips'. Missed tips are counted as losing tips when calculating your score.

What does the Competition Start date signify?

The competition start date means you can start tipping in events that run on this date. You will, however be able to start tipping for the events as soon as the data is available on theGreatTipOff.com. For example if the competition starts on a Saturday, the competitors will be able to enter their tips on Friday when the data becomes available.

What is the difference between a Career Tip and a Competition Tip?

A tip placed against your Career Record will impact your Career Performance History. This includes your performance dashboard and your position on the leader board. Tips placed against competitions impact your performance within the competition. If you tick both Career Record and Competition boxes the tip will impact both.

Are the Pro Tipsters statistics real?

Yes. We have approximately 100 professional tipsters who's tips are assessed using theGreatTipOff.com. Only specials are taken for a Pro Tipster if provided otherwise all their tips are used for their Career Performance.

How is my site rank determined?

Your site rank is determined by your Win Profit %.

This is calculated as follows:

[Win return (for $1) - (Total Tips x $1)] / (Total Tips x $1) ......as a percentage

What is meant by Member Status?

Each user of theGreatTipOff.com is given a member status based on their win profit percentage in the site. As a guide Bronze + puts you into Professional Tipster contention.


Platinum = 150% +
Gold = 80% +
Silver = 40% +
Bronze = 0% +
Blue = -65 +
Red less than = -65%

Only those people who are provided the password by the Competition Manager can joing a private competition.

Explain Win Profit

Win profit is the percentage of money that would have been returned to you if you place a $1 bet on each of your tips. It is calculated as a percentage.

i.e. [Win Return for $1 bet / Outlay for $1 bets ] %

= [Win return (for $1) - (Total Tips x $1)] / (Total Tips x $1) %

Where can I see how I am performing in a competition?

Click Competitions > My Competitions in the main menu then click Rank/Infobutton of your competition to view the leaderboard.

How do I enter tips for a competition?

Click Tip in the main menu. Select the events you wish the tip in and ensure they are valid events for the competition you wish to tip in.

How ofen are the competition and site leader boards updated?

The competition leader board and site leaderboard are updated approximately every 15 mintues. You may experience a greater lag after a race has run due to the time it takes for the results to come through and the timing of the next calculation of the leader board.

Are prizes offered for competitions?

It is up to the Competition Manager to set the prize for the competition. The Great Tip Off is not responsible for ensuring that the Competition Manager correctly represents the prize and that the prize is distributed to the winner of the competition.

How do I invite my friends to the Great Tip Off?

There are a few ways that you can do this. Either go to My Home in the main menu and then select Mates. Then click Invite a Friend to Joing the GTO.

Alternatively on your Home Page, click the Invite Friends link in the Mates box on the bottom left hand side of the page.
