The Furious Stakes is run at Royal Randwick in September at the start of the Sydney Spring Carnival. It is a Group 2 race for three-year-old fillies run over 1400 metres with set weight conditions in the race.
In recent times the most notable winner who went on to bigger and better things in their Spring campaign was Samantha Miss back in 2008. Following her win in the Furious Stakes she went on to win the Tea Rose Stakes and the Flight Stakes, which with her earlier win in the Shadow Stakes, made her one of the rare fillies to win all four legs of the Princess Series. Following these wins she continued to perform well against the older horses coming third in the Cox Plate and winning the VRC Oaks.
In 2013 the race was won by Bound for Earth who did it the hard way going four wide around the turn taking on Guelph in the straight. Although easing up on the line she managed to hold on and get the money. Guelph finished fast over the last hundred metres for second and Thump weakened near the post to finish third.
