Canterbury Race 2 Tip #1 Blazing Miss $3.70

The Mark Newnham stable have been in red-hot form of late and will look to keep the momentum going with this filly by Sizzling.

Her last start third behind the promising Exceedance was full of merit.

After beginning awkwardly, she worked across to lead but raced keenly throughout, with jockey Rachel King unable to slow the tempo mid-race.

Given she was forced to burn the candle at both ends of the race, she did well to finish 1.1 lengths off the winner and beat home fourth place by two-lengths.

Winner Exceedance has since franked that form, flying home for third in a tight go at Rosehill on Saturday. He finished within 0.2 lengths of the talented Splintex and Rotator on that occasion, with a 5 length gap put on the chasing pack.

With limited speed engaged in this race and the 2kg claim for apprentice Robbie Dolan, you can expect to see Blazing Miss go to the front once again.

With the blinkers coming off, connections will be hoping she can race well within herself this time around.

If she gets an uncontested lead and settles in the run, it'll be all over bar the shouting.

Canterbury Race 7 Tip #9 Chalk $12.00 each-way

This gelding from the Wendy Roche yard doesn't win out of turn, but gets his chance to notch one up here.

Now into his fourth run this prep, he'll line up to the barriers with fitness on his side and a senior jockey on his back.

He's been ridden by an apprentice jockey in all three runs this prep but now teams up with Tommy Berry, who had success on the gelding over this track and distance in February this year.

On that occasion, Berry sat last and hugged the rails before kicking strongly late to win well.

From barrier four behind a fast tempo, he's likely to land three pairs back on the fence.

If the run presents, don't be surprised to see him repeat the dose.

Up against average opposition, he looks a genuine winning threat and at the odds, he should be backed each-way with confidence.

Canterbury Race 3 Tip #10 Funstar $2.80

This two-year-old filly by Irish import and Cox plate winner Adelaide debuts here.

She's had a nice grounding now with the three trials and has been met with heavy market support in the lead up to her first career start.

In her first trial she looked very strong late, travelling through the line better than the group level placed Villami.

At her next two trials, she galloped under her own steam and was strong through the line without being asked for an effort.

The fact that the Waller stable have targeted this race against the older horses suggests they have a high opinion of this filly.

With the 2kg claim for apprentice Robbie Dolan, she carries the light-weight of 52kg which makes her hard to beat.

Canterbury Race 6 Tip #7 Walk the Runway $5.00

This mare by All Too Hard is building an impressive record, with two wins from three starts.

She trialled well leading into this preparation and I don’t see any reason to jump off her here after being on her at each start.

She showed great fight first-up. On that occasion she was headed in the straight by Power Rush, before fighting back to win and pulling away again after the line.

The mare then bumped into a smart one in Godolphin’s Gododdin, but she stuck on well to run a place.

If jockey Robbie Dolan can find the lead, I expect her to be very hard to run down.
