21/6/19 Horse Racing Tips & Best Bets: David Gately review

David Gately is considered one of the soundest judges of a race horse around.

"Gator", as he's known affectionately, provides his tips for three of the metropolitan meets each Saturday.

This is tough work, but Gator has always been about pleasing his followers.

As well as his tips, his racing tip package also contains detailed comments, betting suggestions, and advice about which runners to lay.

One of the tracks he tackled last week was Sandown and we've reviewed how his tips went below.

Race 1 Tip: #4 Igniting

Gator went for a bit of value first-up, tipping igniting at odds of $9.40.

Punters got excited when it firmed into $4.80.

That was before it disappointed, only managing a 6th-place finish.

 

Race 2 Tip: #2 Silent Roar

This runner looked set to make every post a winner after taking the lead.

But up the long Sandown straight, she got swamped.

 

Race 3 Tip: #2 Malibu Style

When Gator tipped Malibu Style, it was as long as 20/1.

It got absolutely crunched in the betting market, firming into third favouritism.

That was before it finished agonizingly close in 2nd.

If you put an each-way bet on early, you would've been cheering.

 

Race 4 Tip: #7 Voila

Voila settled towards the tail of the field.

She finished in the middle of the pack in a race where the backmarkers didn't run on.

 

Race 5 Tip: #1 Pacodali

Pacodali was desperately unlucky not to get the win.

He was edged out in a photo finish, where long-shot Mawaany Machine got the chocolates.

 

Race 6 Tip: #11 Tysonic

This was a ripping tip from Gator.

He selected Tysonic when it was paying $8.40.

Credit to you if you got on then, because Tysonic firmed into $7, before greeting the judge.

 

Race 7 Tip: #13 Heir To The Throne

Heir To The Throne ran a solid race for its connections.

He finished two lengths back in 5th. 

 

Race 8 Tip: #5 Waging War - Best Bet

Gator's best bet definitely steered punters in the right direction.

But once again, it was horrible luck, with Waging War getting pipped by a nose in the photo finish.

 

Race 9 Tip: #6 Sizzleme

In the last, it was the odds-on favourite Buffalo River who bolted in.

Sizzleme was a long way back in 5th.
