Winter Carnival betting heats up

This week sees pro punters focus their attention on Queensland, with an abundance of stakes level racing at Doomben.

Flemington provides a more than adequate support act and has also seen plenty of key betting moves.

At both venues, there appears to be money flowing for a number of horses that had genuine excuses at their most recent efforts.

Last week, we struck twice at Scone and once at Doomben delivering 36% profit on turnover for readers who took the prices at publication.

This was largely thanks to The Candy Man, who delilvered the chocolates and sent punters home on a high at Doomben paying $6.00.

For extreme confidence with the below selections, watch the markets closely for a further push inside the final minutes of betting.

Flemington Tips

St Edward’s Crown

Ran well on debut to place 2 of 12 at Seymour, where you could make a case he should have won after slipping at the start and being held up throughout.

Looks to have above average ability and given more luck this time out, will be right in the finish.

The stable love a bet and it usually pays to follow. Yes.

Miss Leonidis

Won at stakes level two starts back when defeating the smart Eduardo and I Am Someone, before just missing against Group 1 contender Iconoclasm at his latest.

Loves to lead and should have no problem carving across the face from the outside barrier (gate 11) to rack and stack them.

Her SP profile is huge, with the money always there to suggest she is flying.

A further push in betting close to the jump would indicate she wins.

Big Night Out

Will receive a great suck run and won't have to go around a horse from the inside draw in gate 1. From there, he just needs a touch of tempo to get home over the top.

He had excuses at this track and distance last start, when he was held up yet still kept on coming to grab second.

The fitness is improving with every run and with genuine speed map favours, he can bounce back to winning form.

Fidelia

Came with a blistering run from back in the field to win here over 1400m last time out.

She now steps up to 1600m and considering her strong run-on profile, should only work in her favour.

She will get back to near last and with a moderate/fast tempo present, she can peel out late and be powering home over the top.

Just needs the leaders to roll along to allow the turn of foot to flourish.

Doomben Tips

Perudo

Has been well supported in betting at all three career starts, where she won on debut and was in the finish on both other occasions.

She looks to have good tactical speed and has the ability to position where she likes.

From the ideal draw (gate 3), expect them to go forward again and either lead or take cover just in behind the first pair.

Racing on speed in 2yo events is a huge advantage and with an inside ally, she can take full advantage and have every chance. Yes.

Zoustyle

Remains undefeated in all five starts and could be an absolute superstar in the making.

This looks her toughest test yet, taking on the genuine Sydney Group horses in Plague Stone and Ronstar.

However, he appears to be loaded with ability and is expected to win this.

The rider will bounce him out and jump straight on the bunny to lead, from where it would take a very brave opposition jockey to challenge for the front.

Could get away with some cheap sectionals mid-race, making it near impossible for those back in the field to get past.

Quilista

Was a huge run in the Silk Stocking at her latest, when she was caught wide with no cover and only just went down on the line for a fighting 2 of 11.

Gets the good draw here in gate 3 and with gun rider Kerrin McEvoy engaged, I doubt they will be forced to sit wide on this occasion.

She certainly has the quality, with wins at both Group 2 and Group 3 level.

Looks to be back in career best form and deserves the attention in betting.

Whypeeo

Is an out and out speedster, who burns along close to or on speed.

He had a complete forget run last time out in the Bat Out Of Hell, where over the 900m scamper he missed the start and was never a hope.

It looks as though they've come hard for him and he has the ability to improve sharply on the last start effort, provided he jumps with them.

The draw is ideal in gate 3 and it would be a massive surprise not to see Sam Clipperton dig him out and jump straight to the front.

Can lead throughout in this and hang on. Yes.
