Best bets for Saturday racing

Doomben Race 8 Tip #11 Shillelagh $9.00

This multiple Group One winning mare appears to have a significant class edge on her rivals and looks well suited to the weight for age conditions of the Doomben Cup.

Her recent form has been mixed to say the least but there have been plenty of excuses in her past three starts, all of which have been in Group One company.

The run prior to that she fell agonisingly short in the Group One Australia Cup under weight for age conditions, and with a repeat of that run she'll be winning this.

The booking of James McDonald is a huge push for her chances. McDonald has a good affinity with the mare, having ridden her to Group One glory last Spring.

From barrier two, look for McDonald to hold a more forward position in the run and from there only bad luck will stop her from fighting out the finish.

Flemington Race 2 Tip #2 Ocean Deep $4.20

This Hayes/Dabernig mare looks a good bet here. She won well last start and should get a similar run here.

She loves the distance and gets a huge bonus with Michael Poy staying aboard and claiming 2kg for the ride.

Expect her to roll forward and fight out the finish.

Rosehill Race 6 Tip #9 Reelem in Ruby $2.50

This is harder but this three-year-old filly is flying.

She’s had five starts for five top three runs, she won well last start and looks like she will eat up the extra trip third-up.

She drops 3kg for this race and looks set to make it back-to-back wins.

Rosehill Race 6 Tip #9 Reelem in Ruby $2.50

This filly from the Snowden yard has put in enormous trials against open class gallopers before heading to the track for an unlucky second, which was followed by an impressive win.

While she is going up in grade, she comes back to her own sex and drops 3kg off a last start win.

The step-up to the 1400m suits her racing style and I'd be expecting to see her flying over the top late.
