Best bets for ANZAC Day

The Autumn Carnival may have come to an end, however ANZAC day always features a quality day of horse racing around Australia.

Royal Randwick will once again play host in Sydney, whilst Melbourne racing goes back to Flemington where an eight-race card is highlighed by the Listed VRC St Ledger.

Both tracks have come up a Good 4 and with fine weather predicted, punters should expect a cracking day of racing.

Randwick Race 4 Tip #5 Julkkis $3.10

This filly from the Chris Waller yard heads to town looking for her third consecutive win.

She overcame traffic issues to breakthrough for her first career victory at Newcastle over 1800m, before dropping back in distance to win over 1400m at Kembla Grange.

Although this is a step-up in grade, she stays against her own sex and looks to have plenty of scope for improvement.

For a small field of eight, there looks to be strong early speed which will allow those runners mid-field and beyond to run over the top.

Drawn barrier two, look for James McDonald to sit three pairs back with cover and ready to strike on turning for home.

With even luck, this talented filly will be flying over the top of them late.

Randwick Race 5 Tip #2 Kravali $9.00

The Kris Lees trained galloper comes into this race without a win for 305-days, but finally gets her chance to break through here.

The return to a drier track and the better barrier draw are two significant switches in her favour, as is the booking of leading hoop James McDonald.

From barrier three, expect McDonald to hold a more forward position and sit one pair back behind nominated leaders White Boots and King Tomlola.

Both of these runners love to get rolling in front and with the cosy run in behind them, Karavali will be able to conserve plenty of energy and be well positioned to run them down.

Flemington Race 2 Tip #2 Bandipur $3.20

This Commands gelding won well at Caulfield last start and is looking to improve on his already impressive winning record of six wins from 17 starts.

Three of those wins have come over the 1000m distance and he's proven down the Flemington straight, with a win and two places from four starts.

Most importantly, he's found a race here with plenty of early speed. This will allow him to find cover down the straight before reeling off some strong sectionals.

At his last prep, he won well third-up before impressing with a strong fourth-up win over the 1000m at Flemington.

This is a proven formula and with speed map favours and a tenacious Craig Williams to ride, you'd expect Bandipur to be very hard to beat.
