Rosehill Race 5 Tip #2 Te Akau Shark $2.20

It’s Shark Week! The very talented Te Akau Shark graces the turf once again this Saturday and looks a standout pick in the George Ryder Stakes.

He wasn’t able to pick up a win in his first preparation in Australia, but all his runs had merit after placing in all his three starts including a ripping third in the Cox Plate.

First-up this preparation, he was finally able to crack his Group 1 duck following a terrific effort over the 1400m at Te Rapa.

He then went around as the firm favourite in the Chipping Norton Stakes, where he produced an eye-catching run to come from well back in the field to claim his first Group 1 scalp in Australia.

He absolutely savaged the line on that occasion, recording the fastest last 600m sectional of the entire day with a 32.59. This was just under 2 lengths faster than anything else in the race.

The step back to 1500m here isn’t ideal, but the soft track conditions should even it out and make it feel like 1600m.

With all respect to his opposition, the Shark faces horses here that look below him on current form.

The speedy Dreamforce and Spend should ensure a moderate to fast tempo, which will set the race up perfectly for him.

The draw in barrier 8 looks to be a positive, allowing him to be taken back out of bother and he won’t need to be that far off in the small field.

Opie Bosson has a simple enough job in-front of him and will just need to get him going through his gears around the 600m mark, to get the gun gelding home over the top.

Eagle Farm Race 7 Tip #2 Star Of Michelin $2.80

The son of Jet Spur only got going late last start, but still managed to finish within a length of the winner.

Given his racing pattern, the rise to a fast run 1600m looks ideal for him third-up.

From barrier nine, he's likely to sit behind midfield or near last. However, he possesses a blistering sprint which should see him fly over the top late.

Ascot Race 8 Tip #5 Fred Dag $4.50

After producing an excellent turn-of-foot first-up, Fred Dag peaked on his run late to just miss behind the smart Red Can Man.

The two geldings face off again here, with a 1.5kg weight swing going in favour of Fred Dag. Second-up and an extra 200m are also positive form factors that will suit the Bruce Watkins trained galloper.

Fred Dag will be at the rear of the field, but the speed looks to be genuine and he'll receive a nice cart into the race without spending much petrol.

Red Can Man received plenty of favours from the soft draw in their first battle and he won't get it as easy here from gate 10.

Expect Fred Dag to fly home and turn the tables on his rival.
